“Baptiste” is a decorative serif typeface with classicist features that is still in progress. It was my first take on a serif. My working process was lead by experimentation in search of an elegant, but also edgy typeface. Baptiste combines both a romantic and a sharp character while showing decorative elements and a high stroke contrast, referring to common shapes of classicist typefaces. The curves remind of soft, organic shapes while the terminals and finals end in twisted, hook-like shapes. Baptiste combines a gentle but also violent side. Because of it’s twisted, ambiguous nature, it carries the name of the famous protagonist of Patrick Süsskind’s novel “The Perfume”. After finishing the regular cut, I am planning to work on several italic and backslanted versions. As of now the regular cut is available upon request.
